Hawg Callin’:
When it comes to raising funds for the BPW/Florida Education Foundation, it’s a matter of having fun. Hawg Callin’ is the event where members come together to support young women attending Florida state university that need scholarship assistance. The Foundation builds Scholarship Houses onthese campuses where students may live in group houses, share responsibilities and learn valuable life-lessons on becoming self-sufficient and responsible. There are four Scholarship Houses built, and a fifth now in the planning stages. When originally started back in 1952, each BPW member was given a piggy bank to save her change for this house building project. Each Spring the piggies are called to a special event called the “Hawg Callin” where money is collected for the Foundation. In Flagler County, this event is usually a casual picnic with members enjoying fellowship as well as the installation of the new officers for the upcoming year.
